The Realities of outdoor play in the day care center for infants and toddlers - Centering around day care centers in metropolitan area

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study was to describe the realitreality of outdoor play in the day care center for infants and toddlers, and to find the way of an induction program for infants and toddlers. This research was done with 173 teachers of infants and toddlers and managers in day care centers in the capital region. All the data and information used for constructing this study was based on the surveys done by teachers and managers in day care centers. The results of this study were as follows : 1) There is absolute lack of outdoor play ground and facility for their activities out of class room. 2) The reality is children don’t have enough time for their outdoor activity although they have outdoor play. 3) It is very important for children to develop their ability of recognition to let them feel and experience nature such as changing of four seasons and weather. 4) The caregiver-infant and toddler ratio is too high for activity of outdoor play. 5) It seems most of caregivers have failed to use the class in outdoor more meaingful. 6) Most of all, caregivers thought that an accidental fall and setting pricked by something sharp pointed were dangerous factors.
